Afro hair care: the essential steps for caring for your lengths
Afro and textured hair needs special attention during detangling and when caring for the lengths. A good routine does not need to be complicated: every product should have a clear role and be used in an easy-to-remember order.
At Melanin Hair, the routine follows four steps: shampoo, spray, cream, then oil.
1. Shampoo: start with a clean foundation
Wet the hair, then apply shampoo while gently massaging the scalp. Rinse thoroughly. How often you wash depends on your habits, your scalp and the amount of product you use between washes.
2. Spray: prepare for detangling
Shake the Detangling Oil Spray before use. Apply it to the hair, then divide the hair into sections. Gradually work through knots from the ends towards the roots, using your fingers or a suitable tool. This helps make styling more comfortable and limits breakage caused by pulling.
3. Cream: care for the lengths
Distribute the Moisturising Cream through the lengths and ends. Do not rinse it out. Start with a small amount, then add more according to your hair’s needs. Between washes, you can reapply it to areas that feel dry.
4. Oil: targeted care
Finish with Growth Oil Roll-On if your routine includes this treatment. Its applicator lets you apply a small amount to the scalp before a gentle massage. Adjust the amount and frequency to your comfort without saturating your hair with oil.
Find your rhythm
There is no single schedule that works for everyone. Observe your hair’s suppleness, how easily it detangles and how your scalp responds. Gentle handling and protection from friction at night can complement your routine.
The Moisturising Range includes the first three steps. The Growth Range adds the roll-on oil for a four-product routine. Choose the one that suits your needs and adapt the steps to your everyday life.
